I've got a pair of ocellaris in my QT right now, trying to treat them for white stringy poop and lack of interest in food. The male was starting to breathe faster than usual the day I removed them from the display, so I'm not sure if I'm dealing with ich, the beginnings of brook, intestinal parasites or possibly more than one thing at once.
I decided to try Metronidazole, since everything I found on treating intestinal parasites suggested this med and I've had luck using it with FW fish before -- I like that it's fairly mild but still effective. I also thought I might as well hypo the fish, just in case they're getting a parasite, so I'm reducing the salinity to 1.009 over a 48h period. I plan to keep them in the QT for 4 weeks to make sure that both the fish and display are clean of parasites. I'm wondering how long I should treat with Metro for the stringy white poop -- is there a certain period of time, or should I continue until they start eating/pooping normally?
Thanks
