Tri colored tangs?

To those of you who know what I am talking about, are these ever available in the US? If so, how often, where and have you seen one?

Thanks a bunch!

Live Aquaria had a few scopas aberrations a while back, Phishy Business had a yellow tang aberration. However, I don't think either of those places had a tricolor in the sense that you're looking for.

If by tricolor tangs you mean aberrant or xanthic color morphs, they are rarely found, but if you look long enough you will find one. They typically lose their xanthic colors within a few months after they are kept in captivity, so not worth the wait/trouble IMO.

what about the one that david saxby has? It looks like this...

Actually he as a couple of these in his tank.

That's the natural coloration of that fish. I have seen pictures of a few of them, but never one in person.

I'd be interested too. My guess is that if you want one you're going to have to be ready to pay top dollar.

I own Zebrasoma morphs of three different species... the "tricolor tang" usually refers to aberrant Zebrasoma scopas... I've owned many "xanthic" fish from different families, and all have reverted back to normal coloration over the period of months, including two "white tangs" that were aberrant Zebrasoma flavescens... Interestingly, when I received my "tricolor tang" it had the normal scopas color, along with a "black tang" black color, along with xanthic coloration... the xanthic coloration has since reverted back as expected, but the fish has kept to a T the aberrant black markings... I can post photos tonight...

I also own one of the much more common all yellow morph Zebrasoma scopas, which I believe to be a regional variant where the are collected, and these keep there color (I've owned mine for years). I own a grey and white Zebrasoma xanthurum that has also held its color through the years...

Zebrasoma is my favorite genus of tangs... and interesting and exciting bunch while only containing just seven species... :)
