Trick for loose Uniseal

I cut a hole in a 1 gal glass jar using a diamond hole say and a drill press. Unfortunately, even though I thought the jar was very well immobilized, when I inserted the Uniseal and pipe the fit was not tight enough to completely seal. There was apparently just a little wiggle when the holde was cut.

I came up with a fix though. I bolted the Uniseal between 2 large washers and tightened them to squeeze the seal making it slightly shorter and wider. I then heated it with a heat gun until the rubber started to get slightly shiny. I then cooled it in cold water. When I unbolted it, the new shape was maintained. The only problem I had was that I had overdone it a bit. That made it difficult to fit through the hole. I managed to get it in and it now seals perceftly!
