Trick to balancing water level in sump?

Lildevil is referring to a system called wet/dry. I run mine wet (no dripping, just straight water into the sump). I can't recall the advantages of wet/dry, but I believe it's supposed to help with maintaining aerobic bacteria without becoming a total nitrate factory
