trigger fish sick PLEASE HELP

my trigger fish is sick. its a humu humu. his fins today have a cloudy to white strips on the edges coming down towards his body. and i wanted to know if anyone knew what it was? i have attached some pictures also. any advice would be great. thank you.

White nodules on fins sounds like maybe lymphocystis which is viral in nature. The typical fix is to ensure good water quality, and feed quality food and vitamins until it hopefully recovers. The key is to boost its immune system so it can fight the disease. It may take time to heal up. Eating=good. Water quality is key, as that can trigger things like HLLE, dropsy, or lymph.

It could be fungal too, which erythromycin should help treat. Or another gram neg antibiotic. I typically use maracyn2 and had success with various ailments. It is great for secondary bacterial infections. Must be used in a quarantine tank.

I'd also add stress into consideration as a contributor, if it is having problems with a tank mate.

I don't think this is lympho or fungal. Lympho has the texture of cottage cheese or miniature cauliflower heads. Fungus is fuzzy or cottony. Really need more info. How long has fish been in your DT? Was it quarantined? Any new fish since he was added? Any behavior problems/ feeding, etc?

As gweston suggested above, this may just be a typical stress reaction and I expect it will disappear as the fish settles in. I'm guessing he's new.

well he is eating really well. 2 things have changed. i upgraded my tank from 55 gal to 150 gal. so the live rock is not too much. also his really good friend that he always schooled with a white tail trigger died. and i know its odd but i feel like he misses the white trigger he seems lost and my nigerian trigger is also depressed to since my loss. but he is eating well and i have had him for 3 months.

my parameters are:
Amonia 0ppm
nitrates 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
ph my test kits suck. they can be from 8.2 to 8.8 not sure going to pet store to get tested.

also last night he was doing fine no marks on him and this morning all his fins had the white lines. so not sure what happened in the last 8 hours. i also attached two more pictures with better lighting. also one more thing i have been trying is living one small actinic light on 24 hrs a day. thank you so much this is the best i can do when it comes to providing info.

Doesn't look like lympho. It almost looks fungal. I'd probably formalin dip him if it doesn't go away in a few days, but that's because I have an obsession with formalin (because it kills almost everything) and fish tolerate it really well.

i went to the pet store and found that my amonia is at 0.6 ppm and my ph is between 8.5 to 8.8 so i am going to try and reduce amonia and ph and see what happens.

Your pH is perfect for a reef tank.

The ammonia is a huge worry. Are you sure that's accurate?

my clown trigger started developing the same thing, but shortly after I fed her live brine shrimp. Before that I wasn't having any issues. Sometimes live brine shrimp can introduce stuff in the tank you don't want in there. I forgot about that problem I had over 10 years ago. To help cure my own trigger fish the past couple weeks, I've been soaking a couple pieces of raw shrimp in vita-chem and garlic power for 10 minutes for every meal per day. just in case it's a parasite that can be eradicated, I've been dosing with a bit of cupramine too. It seems to be clearing up. I'm guessing adding vitamins and garlic to it's food daily has helped.

hi all. thank you for taking the time to respond. i am just going to update you guys. the ammonia has dropped its between 0 to 0.25 ppm. also mr. Humu ( the fish) is still alive and eating so in that aspect his ok. and his fins are about the same no increase or decrease in white lines. but are you sure 3rdimension that ph being between 8.5 to 8.8 is actually ok. i been reading up and all they been saying is that 8.1 to 8.4 is ideal.

I didn't mention that about the ph, someone else did. I try to keep mine at a consistant 8.0-8.2

If your ph is between 7.8 or 8.8 you have no reason to mess with the water chemistry.
