Trigger Systems Titan Skimmer...My review

I'm certainly no skimmer expert, but this is a small company and not much info about this Skimmer, so I thought I would share my experience having added one to my system.

I have a 240 gallon FOWLR (I do have some mushrooms, but I would hardly call it a reef). I have been running an Aqua C EV 240 for the almost 3 years I've had the tank up, first 2.5 years I had a Mag 12 powering it, replaced it with a Mag 18 about 5 months ago. The 18 was better, and I really do think this is a pretty good skimmer, but I think it was not enough for my heavily stocked system, I would say 150 gallon would be the max for the EV 240....Just my opinion.

I have limited sump space (about 12 x15 inches) so that is my challenge with finding a high powered internal skimmer. After doing a BUNCH of research (Glass box design, here, and just browsing the online stores), I was down to 3 choices, the ATB Deluxe 8.5., a Bubble Magnus Cone (the 320 I think it was), and the Trigger Systems. Victor at ATB was great, and gave me a lot of feedback, as was David at Trigger Systems (I won't buy a product unless they have good customer support). I really like the design of the Titan, with the best feature being the 2 Sicce pumps under the tower to save space (thus it is rated up to 450 gallons, but needs very little space), and felt it was the most bang for the buck, the only reason I was leary was that I literally couldn't find anyone with experience with it. I got it from Premium Aquatics 2 weeks ago. Jeremy at P.A. is awesome and felt the skimmer is a high quality product and said it was VERY well made which helped.

It has been running for 2 weeks today, and absolutely blows my Aqua C out of the water.

Should have taken a picture of it once I put it together:rolleye1:, but here are the parts as it arrived...It was packed perfectly BTW. It is powered by 2 Sicce PSK 1000's seen on the table.

Here is a picture of 5 days worth of skim.....Darker and nastier and FAR FAR FAR more than what ever came out of the Aqua C.

Just did a small water change, but here is a little video of the tank and the skimmer about 3 minutes after being cleaned (which was easy btw) and restarted.....Could have turned off the music in the other room I guess, hope you don't mind The Killers:lol:

In conclusion....I think this thing is AWESOME thus far, I'm very glad I took a chance on a company I'd never heard of. As far as I know Premium Aquatics is the only online site that sells them ($599 includes everything and free shipping), they also have the slightly smaller Bursa model that only has one Sicce pump....If you're like me and looking for a powerful skimmer but have a smallish sump, I hope you consider this.

That is some nice skimmate production. Do those run meshwheels or pinwheels? They are sicce pumps correct? I used to have a sicce and swore I would never have another one. Hopefully these are made better.

I sent a note to them to find out if they are mesh or pinwheel....I'm not sure, and not on their site, or P.A. site. Yes, they are modded Sicce PSK 1000. These are my first Sicce pumps, curious why you don't like them....Performance or reliability issue?

I first want to say great write up, Thanks!

The previous Sicce psk-2500 pumps were problematic to sum it up. The new psk-1000 is a great pump and so far does not have the issues the psk-2500 had. It's also a bigger pump than the 2500 (880 vs 660 gph).

Because of the 2500's reputation it's hard for most people to get past it and believe they could fix the issues and produce a totally new pump that works great. I have the psk-1000 on my skimmer and so far it's working just fine. There's no need to swap them out.

Thank you, and yes that's essentially what David from Trigger Systems said, they are pinwheel impellers designed by Sicce specifically for this PSK pump so you don't have to worry about pumps not starting up or any other issue that may come from custom impellers....Time will tell on the pump, but no issues thus far.

I got the Bursa for my 135 cube. Can't wait to set it up. Looks really nice and the quality of the build is actually very nice. I like it better then my me Reef Cone skimmer. But we shall see when I finally get to setup the cube. Hopefully it performs as well or better then expected. I also got the trigger systems elite sump to go with it, which is also a very nice high quality build

Any updates or opinions on your skimmer? How has the psk-1000 held up. I'm looking at buying one this week but would love some feedback first.

I am very pi$$3d I bought this skimmer. I've had mine for two weeks but the construction is sub par. Messy glue joints, spilled glue, thin material, and bad craftsmanship. The design is acceptable but it's execution is not acceptable at all. The air tube fittings on the intake weren't even glued in properly. I was expecting My Reef Creation quality but no chance. I got a SRO EXT 5000 Coral Vue skimmer for a different tank the same week and no comparison. Coral Vue has thicker material, flawless construction, and perfect glue joints.

Have pics of the uglyness? Looks good in the pics above but cannot see the details. I can agree however on the coralvue skimmers, I own a sro5000int :) They are AWESOME. :wavehand:

Are they quiet? Many people had bad experiences with the SICCE pumps on ATI skimmers. Anyone else noticed poor construction?

Those were psk 2500 pumps modified to be skimmer pumps. The Sicce 1000 is a pump built as a skimmer pump it is not the same at all.

I really would like to buy American (Trigger Systems is USA), simply to create more jobs for my neighbors. Most other skimmers are made in China or Europe.

Would be great if Plato could share pictures of the poor build and acrylic thickness. Also, comments from others on how quiet it is would be beneficial. Many of us would like to make a well informed decision, thus you can contribute to that.

Ok, gotta ask this. Some cone skimmers are just that, a full cone. Others have a normal cylinder where the pump and bubble plate are and then go into a conical shape up to the collection cup. I've seen the SRO's like that and this one as well. So, what makes one better than the other? and are the conical skimmers necessarily better than the older cylinder style? If so, What makes them better.

Sorry, not trying to steal the thread, just really curious.

Read my post in the skimmer thread. I ordered a trigger systems bursa 3 weeks ago. I was told yesterday that I would get it sometime next year. Lol. I cancelled the order and had my card credited back the $ 475.
