trigger with something in it's eye

I recently bought a blue throat trigger ( small ) and it has been in QT for 2 weeks with some live rock and my candy-cane corals ( they have been isolated from my display since I got a Moorish Idol - he eats them ).

Any way, after two weeks I noticed some white spots on the trigger's rear top fin. I cleared out the tank of LR and put the candycanes into my display's sump.

Now that I can clearly see the trigger, I notice he has a white object in one of his eyes. When he moves his eye, the object moves around ( it is not attached inside ).

What could this be? I assume some sort of parasite. This could be the cause of the ich-like spots on his fin.

I have formalin, prazilpro, maracyn-2, maricide, and coppersafe.

What of these would be the best treatment? I assume that a combination of a dip of one type and another dose directly into the QT is the best combination.

Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

Also, I am now bummed that I put the corals back in the display. What is the chance that either the ich, or the parasite can hitch-hike on a coral. I transferred them dry ( dripping ) from the QT to the display.

Can you take a picture? Sounds interesting. Is it definitely in the eye? That seems like it would be difficult to see past the iris and all.

It sounds like a fluke infection, either a fresh water dip or a formalin dip. I think a FWD would be less stressfull then a formalin treatment. Make the fresh water the same PH and temp. The fluke should fall off if that is what it is.

If it's actually in the eye would the formalin work? Maybe metronidazole instead (I'm just learning this too).

If it's a fluke it's crawling on the surface of the eye. The dip should still work. Stugray described it as not being in the eye. Eventually the parasite will cause the eye cloud over.

Thanks for all the help.

I decided to use a formalin dip while doing a water change, then prazil-pro in the QT for anoter week.

While I did the water change, I used a new heater to heat the WC water to get the setpoint right ( the old heater was stuck a little high ). The heater heated the WC right to 80 deg.

Next morning fish was swimming looking for food.

That afternoon ...... DEAD!! the water temp had reached 100 degrees. NO MORE cheap petsmart heaters. Even after unlpugging it for 1 hour, and plugging it back in at 90 degrees, the heater still kicked on at the lowest setting!

Thanks for the help anyway. That's one way to do away with a fluke problem.
