I would not go smaller than the 1100 in your monster tank. Probably the 1500 or 2200 for your tank. The one thing I don't like about them is that I lost a tang and a rabbitfish that got stuck on the intake to them. That's never happened on my Tunzes. Also, I believe they draw a lot more power than advertised. Prices vary all over the map.
Dave (cee) and Randy. Is there a way to minimize the possibility of fish getting caught by the pumps suction? If not, I see no reason to have one at any price. The Tunzes are sure expensive though.
I think someone came up with some type of mod where they used a piece of PVC to act as a sleeve over the the intakes... But you have to make sure not to completely block them... I think there was a 1/4 - 1/2" gap...
For the size of your tanks it might be more cost efficient to use a CL system and then supplement with some powerheads where you think you need more flow...
Yep, I modded them. The PVC ring goes in front of the intake (don't partially block the intake, you'll make it worse). It helped, but I never felt totally comfortable that it would completely solve the problem.
Thanks for the replies guys. I will probably go with the CL that I was planning anyway. The need to find another way to spend money way not my goal, gold, no goal.
