Trimming excess skeleton off Acan

I picked up a two head frag of Rainbow Aussie Acan this weekend, and below the heads is about an inch worth of white skeleton. Should I trim this off, or leave it be? And if I should trim it off, any suggestions on how?

I would leave it. I've lost a few from breaking that skeleton where it shouldn't get broken, just removing the plug.
