Trip to Kentucky

Reefing On My Mind
Team RC
So I had to go to Frankfort, Kentucky yesterday for work... I was rather grumpy about it, because I hate having to drive that far just to shoe a couple of horses, even if they do make it worth my while... :) So, I shod the two horses and the owner asks me inside to get paid... As he's writing me my check I see his 350g Reef tank... It was rather impressive... Mostly zoos and LPS, but he had a gorgeous Angel, that he ordered from Hawaii and paid way too much for... lol So then of course we stop talking horses and start talking about Aquariums... He was nice enough to hook me up with three frags... :)

I think these are Orange People Eater's on top??? And then the Pink Elephant Paly's on the bottom and as my new avatar... :)

And I've seen these called either Spiderman or Xmen paly's??? lol **** on names, I just think they're pretty...

So I felt better about my trip up there... :D

Does this mean that you should include the phrase, "Will work for frags!" on your posts and mean it? Nice frags btw. If you ever want to sell any of those as frags I am sure there will be a few interested people around.

Ahhh. I don't think the top ones are the OPE's (but nice, nonetheless). These are mine in a top down under 175W 12K.

I bought these as RPE's from the LFS, but they look very much like the picture on zoaid of the Orange People Eaters). I know a number of people that argue that these are RPE's and the RPE's shown on zoaid should be replaced by these. They say that under 10K or lower K lighting, the polyps turn more orange, but are red in higher K lighting. They looked more red to me when I bought them under 20K's. They are under 12K's and look more orange, so it supports their theory so far. (I was originally thinking that the argument was that the RPE's and OPE's were the same and can't support that, but in writing this, I think they were arguing misidentification more than them being the same just under different lighting. I'm dumb like that some times...). FWIW, to be a people eater, most commonly agree it should have the green slit mouth. Just a bit inside the mind of zoa snobs everywhere;).

Ahh. The pink elelphants. I thought that's what they were. Those are nicely colored up. Let me know when they grow up. I'd be interested in trades or sales.

Those blue and reds are nice, too. I bought some sold as Superman Blues, but I think anything with red and blue is being called superman. I like them alot. I didn't have a single blue zoa until about three weeks ago and now have four or five. Gotta love the ebb and flow of this addiction:).

To sum up my incessant ramblings, that's a nice work trip:D.

very nice score! I bet you hope his horse throws a shoe now just to go back and hope for more goodies! And of course you know I want in line when they grow up.
I agree names have gotten out of controll. I think the intended purpose for names has backfired. I like a name so you don'y have to say, " you know, the blue, red, yellow ones you have..." and just say your bubblegums, evil mels, bamm bam oranges or whatever the name may be of the ones you like. Nameing zoas has driven the prices up just because of a name which is sad :(

That blue morph has been around awhile and was quite expensive when it came out. I managed to pick up a few polyps, but they never held their color well for me, but your KY customer obviously has better success. Here's a shot of one of the original colonies:

Gary~ Yeah, I was questioning the PE part of it... No green mouths, but they're a really nice orange though... :) Hmmm, Superman, Xmen, Spiderman, maybe they should just be called Marvel Comics zoos...

Larry~ I know I need a new camera... lol Mine is better than Ashley's... I've talked to Julie about which camera to get... I think I'm going to get Ashley a new camera for Christmas...

Dave~ Now you have me worried about having them retain their color... :) Oh well... It'll be nice while it lasts... I think he was just running VHO's... Perhaps the MH's bleach them out??? I have mine in my Aquapod... Hopefully my Sunpod won't be too intense...

Randy,

I've got my Marvel comic blues ;) under 175W 12K MH (and have for about a month now) and they are holding color. Now a 12K has very little par and intensity compared to other bulbs, so that might make a difference...

Gary, well, mine are under 14k 150w HQI... A little bluer than yours, but should be comparable in intensity, so we'll see how the color does... :)
