Tripod Heads

Yup That Stuff
Hey guys I have been looking over the internet and can't seem to find the answer to my question. I have an old tripod Coastar VTR-65 that I am trying to get a new head for. My question is since this is so old will a new head fit on it? Also how do new heads attach to legs? This one has a threaded stud out of the top tube that the head threads onto. Is that how all heads are attached or at least most of them? Also any recommendations would be appreciated as well. Budget is low since it really doesn't need to be replaced but I wanted to try a ball head. Thanks in advance.

yeah, there are usually two sizes of threads (I can't recall off the top of my head what they are - maybe 1/4 or 3/8ths?). Most good heads will give you choice of thread size or an adapter to fit either. I shelled out for a RRS (Really RIght Stuff) tripod head a while ago and LOVE it. Even the smaller BH-40 holds no matter what I load on it and it is smooth as butter. It isn't cheap, but I feel it was worth the cost. Of course that is now that the bill is long paid off and forgotten about.

Yea thats a bit outta my price range...lol... This will have a rebel xt then a t2i on it so nothing huge so it doesn't have to hold a huge amount of weight.

opps error, it was the tripod from the same company that had both tread sizes,
to change if needed. I didnt need to change it out.
