Tripod question.

Hi,

Can I buy the wrong tripod or is the mounting mechanism standardized?

I have a Nikon Coolpix 8700 and would like to get a good tripod at a reasonable cost for a non-pro.

Any pointers are welcome.

You can, absolutely, buy the "wrong" tripod but the mounting hole in your camera is a standard size.
