Does anybody know what happened? I was there few times in past few weeks and the store is locked. Today I looked and the website is down saying "Thanks for all the good years" I emailed Joel one time that I am outside his store but never hear back. Hope he is doing ok.

As of right now yeah they're temporarily closed. I think the plan is to reopen later? I hope that's the plan. Just curious as to where most people will plan on going to get supplies now

Thanks Alex, Hope Joel is well and will reopen. As far as supplies online it is... Wonder what happens with all the live stock that he has. He received big shipment of gorgeous corals not that long ago...

Looks like they are putting their focus torwawds Cle aquatic. Wholesale only. I have no idea what the plan is for triton. If its shut down temporarily or if they are just moving to wholesale only.

Seen this on another forum in August of 2020; Hope all is well...

Joel is doing just fine. And yes. As Wspangler said the focus right now is on CLE aquatics. I'll admit I was the young guy working there on weekends. I started working quite literally a few weeks before covid happened. I'm sure I met many of you and hope I was able to help out. It was fun talking to other hobbyists all the time. As for triton, I myself do not know what the plan for the store is. I started working there for fun because I love the hobby and it took up some time between my college classes. I'm just hoping for the best for the store, whatever that path may be.

As for what FullBoreReefer posted, I am not sure what the original name for triton was. If it was TMA aquatics and that post is referencing what I think it is, I promise it has nothing to do with triton right now. I will not expand on past staff changes or anything related to that to respect the privacy of anyone involved.

I don't see how any LFS can make it. How do you compete with all the online stores - BRS, marine depot, liveaquaria, algae barn, wwc, ....?

Mapped pricing on dry goods, and people want to see the actual fish or coral they're buying so they're a lot more willing to buy at stores instead of online I think

Aquatica, Aquatic Tech and Blue Fish are all LFS and they are doing fine. Its "deep pockets" and how you run your business.

I've been to Aquatic tech and Blue Fish, they are great. It seems like a tough business.

I hope triton comes back.

So there is a new store in the same spot that triton was at called Great Lakes Fish and Coral. They just opened today. Here's a pic of the business card I dont think their website is up yet

Hopefully not just a name change...because, you know, that would cancel out the “conflict of interest“.

According to the above Facebook post, sounds to me like they don’t wanna deal with customers and only businesses, less risk. Conflict of interest, doubtful, that makes no sense.

Thank you Alex, glad to see that. I will have to stop by and take a look. Do you know who is running it? Any chance to see you there?

I met the guys working there but I do not know them. Very friendly though. As I was talking to the new owner he said he had been wanting to open a store and when Triton was closing he asked if he could take the store over since a lot of stuff was already set up for him. But he is not tied to CLE Aquatics or triton in any way. Brand new store name and a little different focus. They had some nice freshwater fish there when I went. And unfortunately no I will not be trying to work there. I don't have enough time between classes this semester and I start a new coop within 2 months
