Tropic Eden reefflakes

I recently purchased a bag of TE reefflakes to layer on top of my existing sandbed on my 2yo tank in areas where I want to increase thickness so I can plant some macro algae.

Once I open the bag, do I have to use it all at once, or can I reseal it and use more of it after a few weeks? I'd like to avoid any ammonia spikes, so I thought about laying sand at weekly intervals.

Any insights on how best to proceed?

You can use the bag over a period of time.

To prevent spikes, rinse the sand very well before introducing it, and don't layer more than a half-inch of new sand over the existing bed at any given time or you may create dead-spots in your live sand.
