I've had trouble raising the magnesium levels to their proper parameters. Is it just me or why are these levels sooo low... How would you suggest fixing the Magnesium in steps? thanks guys.
Aaron.

If you just want to raise it, Kent's Tech M is a good product.
Do you use a Ca reactor?
If so, I use magnesium chips to keep my levels steady.

m- tech or esv b-ionic magnesium is good. you don't want to raise it more than 100ppm a day. it will take alot to raise it. it took the whole 32oz bottle to raise my 75g from 1100ppm to 1300ppm. just use randy's dosage calulator on the chemistry forum to figure it out. what are your levels now? how big of a tank?

i've heard from some people about some thing with eptsom mg salt or some thing. B/c tropic marin's mg salt mix levels are extremely low. I would have to add bottles a week of Tech M to keep it steady.

yes, you can use epsom salt, but your sulfate will build up quickly without water changes. MAG flake is a better alternative. it is an ice melter that can be found a home depot.

its safe to just put into the aquarium? atm i dont have a ca reactor know I really need one but atm how else should i keep levels at proper parameters?

I use magnesium chips ...whats that????

possibly dolomite...

no because you will have a high concentration in a small area until it disburses. Mix with water first and pour it slowly into your sump. I use TM also and use epson salt to boost the level up w/o any problems with high sulfate levels. I also use some dolomite in my reactor to help maintain...check out Randy's forum there are plenty of threads on this subject.

No one knows what high sulfate does. If you do regular water changes, then there is nothing to worry about. You can buy a 50 pound bag of magnesium from harveysalt.com which doesn't have sulfate in it.

the harveysalt.com magnesium is what i was talking about. just make sure it is the mag flake. shipping will cost you though. home depot does carry this in most northern states. better alternative than epsom salt. here is randy's 3 part receipe for cal., alk., and mag.

randy's receipe

You should be able to find some MgCl salt melter now. It's really commonly used for this application and is cheap as dirt.
