bought a healthy looking bubble anemone yesterday from my regular supplier. placed it in a 125ltr tank with 3 x T5 lights. did water change on Friday and tested this morning all ok and normal.
today however the anemone did not open up? is this normal? or am i missing something?

Well, first, how big is your tank how many watts of light?

Anemones shrink up periodically to either
1. expell waste (poop)
or
2. to balance the water in theyre bodys with the water in the tank

Is it super shrunkin? It may being doing one of those two things. If so it should look normal agian in a few hours.

Dont forget to feed your anemone every few days as well.

I like silverslides but some people feel mysis is better. You'll have to come to your own conclusion.
hope its just poopin :)

Mine has been doing the same thing. It seems most often when the lights go out.

You guys would probably benefit from Joyce Wilkersons Book, Clownfishes. Although it is mainly dedicated to the care, ID, and husbandry of the Clownfish, it does have some information on anemones also. There are probably better books to reference, this one may be a good start.

I have a book entitled "Anemone Fishes and their Host Anemones"

The ISBN is 1-56465-118-5. It seems to be a bit old but it is still full of good information.

I just may have to check that out, thanks for the tip.

Anemone update.
it looked very well this morning, but just got home from work and he's nowhere to be seen. found him down behind the live rock still looks good. any ideas on how to draw him out to the front of the tank?

Unfortunately, you need to let them find their place in the tank. I know, very hard to have him like the back of the tank, but if he will attach to a rock9their preference) you can move the rock to where you want it.

My RBTA was lost from sight for almost 4 months, then one day he appeared on a rock at the top of the display and happy there ever since.

Give him time to settle. Hopefully where he can be seen.
