True Percula Compatability

First time poster here.

Just confused while reading the stickied FAQs on clownfish, where the PDF Anemone FAQ states that the only 2 Anemones that True Perculas prefer are Heteractis magnifica (ritteri anemone) or Stichodactyla gigantea. However, it also states that those are the only anemones that are classified as the "Most Difficult." Does this mean that True Perculas should probably not be had by novice aquarists? I have never heard of True Percula's being hard to keep.
I have heard that the E. quadricolor (bubble anemone) and S. haddoni (saddle anemone) are also good choices for True Perculas. Is this true?

Most people keep thier true percs in BTA's (E. quadricolor) . I have one that hosts a feather duster, they also host mushrooms/xenia/and just about anything else.

I belive the faq is reffering to wild behavior.

My my bta hosts my true perc. i believe most anems will host them/ true percs will go into any anemone.

My True Percs

My True Percs

I have two True Percs and they host in a "Pink Sinularia" finger leather. They have also produced several hundred offspring. The "kids" host in RBTAs, Frogspawn, Green hammer corals and Torch corals. I think that they too would go into anything.

Here is a shot of some of the babies at about 4 months old. They host in both the Frogspawn and Torch corals. This shot is a couple of months old now so they are a bit more mature. Many have their second strip and even a few have the beginning of third strip. It has been really cool watching them develop.

Just because the anemone's are difficult doesnt mean you cant keep true perculas. They DONT NEED an anemone and captive bred ones will often not host at all. WC or CB will often host many different things - from strands of algae to xenia ( I had one a few years back in my nano that hosted in xenia ).

Here is an interesting observation: I placed a pair of the Juvenal Percs shown above into my 12 gal. nano that had both a green Hammer and a tiny 2" RBTA. These guys had never even seen a RBTA and had grown up around the hammer, Frogspawn and torch corals. The larger of the two went immediately into the RBTA and never even went near the Hammer coral at all. The small perc was not allowed near the RBTA and stayed in the familiar Hammer Coral 6 inches away. After settling in for a week or so the smaller perc was allowed to visit and then ultimately join the larger Perc to establish a pair in the RBTA.
