Sure! Its really very simple. You donate a frag to program and the person who receives that coral must give away two frags before they can "own" the coral. So no sell any frags before you have given two away. Of course, you do get people who abuse the system, but most people realize who they are and stop giving them stuff.

We give away the corals two ways, first is online and then a twice a year DBTC meeting. Below are the links the general give away online, and then another to DBTC meeting that is going to happen in just a few days. This program has only been going on for a three years, but look how many people are donating frags to the meeting and the activity on the threads.

This program is great because it keeps reefing a bit cheaper in our area, and for people like me, makes it possible to have a nice reef. The downside to this program is that people will often take corals that they arent ready to grow, so do lose some frags. But over all this program is a huge success. All you need to get this going I think would be find 5 buddies who will participate, and from there it will grow pretty fast because they will need people to donate the frags to, and it will get interest going as they talk to their friends about it.

so, is their a central tank somewhere the holds the corals, and someone monitors them to make sure, say i dont go and give away a $10 xenia and a $10 red shroom and get a $50 chalice? Maybe im missing something but how could someone be shady if you have to give away 2 before you can get your 1? How do you know if i gave away 2?
and what is DBTC?
Seems like a big hassel when you can post what you have to trade and what you want in return on here already and if someone whats to they will so we kinda have this in place without knowing it.

The DBTC is a club around Denver(Don't Break The Chain). the links only work on living reef, sorry. No thats cool. There is no central tank, and because of this you could get scammed. It is a face to face thing say you have five people that want to do it. So you all take your frags(two) and give one to two people. by doing this you then own the ones you get. What you take to trade is up to you. it is not about rare high money coral, just a friendly way to spred the love. If you want and can afford to give away something like that awesome if not it is ok too briing what you can. Maybe after a few you might have something nice to give back. Like my 5 year old says " You get what you get and don't throw a fit."

The only problem I see is that I think the majority of us that frag stuff is to sell it to put money back into the tank. The one thing I can say for sure is that you need to build a repore with people on here. I have a good repore with some people on here and i'm sure some think im a d!@$. Doesn't really matter but what I think is important is building relationships around the hobby with a core group of people. JMO..
