Try this again-My 600 gallon tank build

In the mean time, I am finishing up this tank for James and I will keep posting progress until it leaves. I got the other two holes cut out of the top. I will go back over them with the template to make them nice and pretty. Then all that is left is to glue the overflow box on and glue the bottom on. Here is were it stands now.

Tank is looking great Brett. I can kind of see a glimpse of the sump sitting over there on the right. The Acrylic you are cutting out on the top of the 600, can they be used for covers for the tank?

now that will be a nice size cube tank...how on earth do you glue an 8' length of acrylic...LOL my fingers would fall asleep trying to squeeze the six tubes of weldon you would need for that seem...LOL...

please post loads of pictures...almost post too many...so us folks who have no hopes in heck of ever owning a tank like this can live vicariously through your ambitions..

We had some left over acrylic and here are the external Tunze wave boxes. They will go on each end of the overflow.

lucky man... great acrylic work to... I have been thing about how I can incorporate built in external waveboxes into my tank build but I first have to see how far the tank is along in the manufacturing process. I would love to be able to hook up two waveboxes. Which ones did you get for your tank?

Can you explain the wave boxes a little better? And/or link me to more info on external wave boxes?

Are they DIY wave boxes or just a compartment to hide a Tunze wavebox?

Reefwaters,
These are DIY waveboxes. Im going to use the pumps/controller from my Tunze Waveboxes and scrap the stock boxes. No links that I can post as far as I know Im the first on RC,maybe someone else can help you out on that.

To explain these would be pretty simple. Basically the pumps are set to blow water out of the boxes at set Intervals. The water fills the boxes to the tank level then gets blown out over and over depending on how you set the controller.

46bfinGA, that is very cool. I understand the wave box concept. I just hate that you have to scrap 50% of those VERY expensive wave boxes. Are there no other pump/controller options to use on the DIY box?

The Tunze box which Im scrapping is only about $50. The 6261 pump is $400 new. Controller is around $100.

Trust me I though about just buying the pumps/controller seperately from the box but their was no cost savings in my situation. I did buy the Waveboxes used though so I saved a little cash that way.

Check out the "Built in Waveboxes" thread and you can see what it looks like mocked up next to the overflow.
