Trying a Gigantea

For the initial acclimation period, I'd say definitely give it 2 weeks without feeding it. Once it's comfortable, do what you want, but I can say mine has gone a year at least without feeding directly, and shows no difference.

I'm interested in the nem itself. What variant causes the white tips seen on this anemone? I would have thought that was another species, but I'm not the expert on classifications. Do you know where it was collected?

By the way, my point here is not to advocate for never feeding anemones. I do think they should be directly fed occasionally, and more frequently than once a year, I was just using that example to express that I don't think an anemone needs food in the first couple of weeks if all other conditions are right. After posting how I hadn't fed it in a while, I give mine some shrimp! :p

I have fed my anemones and they grew really fast. I have keep from feeding my anemone when I don't want them to grow.
I think anemones can be healthy without feeding but definately they will grow quite a bit more with feeding. I am sure you really don't mean that the anemone will be the same with feeding regularly or without feeding.

Right. I don't think I said an anemone would be the same if you did regularly feed vs. if you don't feed, but I did say he will be fine without feeding. My anemone showed no difference in a year without direct feeding, meaning that it didn't show any decline or improvement (or significant change of any kind that I noticed) over that period of time. I can see how that might be confusing.

The difference, I agree, is that they grow when fed. But unlike corals, I'm not sure the anemone growing is always the goal. Mine generally maintains it's current size without feeding. I sort of like mine staying mid-size, otherwise it'll take over my tank! That's the primary reason I don't feed often, because I don't want tit to get too big, and it does fine without many feedings.

Good point to clarify Minh :)
