Trying Seachem Stability

Hi,

Is this pretty much steps for stability with ammonia source?

My setup is Aquaclear 70 with 1L seachem matrix
and poly floss. Mainly dry rock. 17 gallon tank.
Btw should poly floss be on top or bottom of the hob?

New Setup RO DI water
Check Ammonia
Add Ammonia to 5ppm
Add Seachem Stabilty
Wait 24 hrs recheck Ammonia
Repeat 7 days
Check Nitrite in between
Do 50% water change
Check Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate
2 days to 1 week before adding CUC

I have started all my tanks with Stability. I would dose ammonia up to 3ppm and dose Stability for 7 days straight. I usually check ammonia and nirite every other day. Once ammonia dropped and nirite was high, I started checking nirite and nirate every other day. Once nirate spiked and went back down, I did a 20% water change. I waited a few days to add the CUC. So yes, you are on the right track.

Here is a good dosing calculator to help calculate the exact volume you need. IMHO you need to keep "feeding" the bacteria until your ready to add live stock, inverts or fish after you've qt'd them. you'll see the ammonia spike then nitrites and you'll be left with nitrates that will need to be exported from the tank. I've attached a pdf of a fish less cycle that was passed on to me some time ago.

Nice. Thanks!

I ordered those plastic pippettes mainly to test water but will use to
dose the ammonia.

Does it make any sense to use my previous cycled water from my 5 gallon?
Its 0 Ammonia and Nitrite. It will sit one night without circulation, was
planning on using it tommorrow evening. I am waiting for more dry rock
to arrive.

It wont hurt anything using the water fro your 5gal tank.
