Trying to decide on clam

I have been admiring all of the clams you all post and have decided that I need one. My tank is 36x36x24 lit by 2x400MH, tank is BB. I was wondering the best clam that does not need to be in the sand? I suppose I could add a little lagoon for the clam if needed. What do you all think?

Dave

get what u like. i think you have more thatn enough light for any of them. i would make a little lagoon with a peice of rock what ever you choose. the only thing is that one turns into 2 and 3 and so on....

Crocea are best for not being on the sand. I have a maxima on the rock that is doing great, as well as a squamosa. I have not tried any others on rocks.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah I know 1into2 into 3... Right after posting this I started to think of a dedicated clam tank. Man this is a sickness first sps, now clams, next who knows.

Thanks again,
Dave

i would love to do a clam tank, i have a nice golden tear drop comming in can not wait, was a great price also

yeah, clams are nice.
Definitely get a maxima or crocea. they're the best looking clams and dont grow too big esp the crocea.
I have a 6 inch teardrop and a 4 inch blue max rite now and i love them! I want to get a crocea or two but no room......

Yes indeed. :)

One thing to keep in mind when placing your new clam/s , take your time to acclimate them to your lighting as not to stress them out. ;)

Personally I'd get a crocea or maxima, they are the 2 nicer species and will be happier on a piece of rock than anywhere else. I see no reason to make special arrangements to keep a derasa or squamosa unless you had insufficient light for a maxima or crocea.
I know what you mean by addictive, I bought my first clam about 4 years ago because me and a mate came across some cheap maximas and that has become 15 clams in an almost dedicated 740L (~190G) tank. :eek1:

Yep there more addictive than cigeretts lol....Am in the proces of seting up a clam tank as well....your system can handel any clam you wish....I tend to go for the maximas IMO there the best looking. The croceas are pretty cool as well....the croceas can take more current though...
