TS24 - AquaController 4x2x2 Tank

And so the quest has begun for intank circulation. Originally I was considering using a SCWD device although now Im leaning towards something a little more powerful. The tank size will be a 4x2x2 and will be used mainly for SPS plus 1-3 wee fishies

I am considering getting a Tunze Stream Kit 6010 which includes a Stream 6000 and a single controller (7091). The pump I believe is variable between 2500-7000lph. Few questions on it.

1. Can the Controller change the flow rate of this pump? And can this be programmed for certain times etc? Will I need the light sensor thingo?
2. Would this flow be suitable for a 4x2x2 tank? Note:- I want to remove the SCWD from the tank design and have this and the sump return as the only circulation
3. I've ordered an AquaController II, does anyone know if the Stream pump could be controlled by this device instead of the Tunze 7091 Controller? Really want to have a quieter tidal action during the evening (except on Full moon )

The other gadget Im looking at is the Tunze Osmolator 3155 for top-off water. Is this an overkill or would there be a better solution utilising the AquaController?

UPDATE:- Im now looking at the TS24 kit. Would this be suitable for a 4x2x2 tank. Can the controller vary the flows of the 6100 streams?

TS24 is way to much for that tank. TS07 is ok (6010) a kit made from 2 6000 and a 7094 would be ideal. You will need the photocell to have calm night mode. The single controller allows you to set two pump speeds and an interval between 1-7 seconds that it switches between the speeds you set- at night it goes to the second speed continuously when you have the photocell. I am not too familiar with the Aquacontroller. I do know that it would only be able to turn the pumps off and on and not control the speed- turning them off and on through an interface other than our 5 pin din port system computers will void the warranty if done more than once per hour. I think the Osmolator is the best system available, Norbert Tunze invented this type of top off device almost twenty years ago and we are now three generations into it and I think our current system is the best anyone has ever made. It is extremely precise and has numerous safety features to prevent an accidental overflow.

like roger said-stick to the tunze controllers (on electronic pumps) for your wavemaking purposes. the pumps are only to be turned off and on 1/hour and X-10 "events" can be noisy to boot (and the relays in the modules aren't designed for wavemaking and frequent on/offs). and, unfortunately the aquacontroller doesn't have any accesories that would allow for control of water level/replacement of evaporation. if you went with 2 6000s and a multicontroller (7094 which includes the photocell that enables night mode-setting 2 on both pumps) you'd have a sweet setup!

Thanks Twins and Roger. Do you really think the 6100's would be too intense for the tank of this size? Do the pumps have to go to 100% when using variable flow?

Just that it will be hard for me sourcing the controller and pumps seperately as I am in Australia and dealers are hard to come by.

Thanks again

The 6100's are more appropriate for a 6' aquarium they are just too much otherwise. I see no logical reason why you can't get everything seperately, the dealer has no incentive to sell as a kit. The pumps do not have to go to 100% they could stay at 30%.

Thanks Roger :) I found a dealer who will sell seperately. I am going to go with the 6000s.. Thanks again all
