Ttm issues

So I have two ten gallon tanks for ttm, with 100 watt jager heaters.

Today was transfer day, and I had both set up at 79.

Tank 1 was set at 79, and after 24 hrs, was still there.

Today right before the 72nd hour, I measured new water 79, and tank they were coming out of, 84 somehow.

It's the heater and pump, no lights, in a cool room. The pump is tiny, about 20 watts.

I transferred them ...is 5 degree swing from one tank to other too much?

Depends on the fish probably. I know I subjected my clown to multiple temp swings like that. She's still fine, though certainly wasn't thrilled at the time.

i've had loads of issues with bad internal therms in heaters.

i have a few heaters that are set on the dial to 72 degrees, but heat the water to 80 degrees every time.

so i do two things:

1. i pre-calibrate my heaters to the temperature i want, regardless of what the dial says.
2. i check the temp (and also salinity) in my TTM tanks twice a day. once in the morning and one in the evening, just to make sure things are stable.
