TTM transfer timing

First time doing TTM

Fish are in their first tank after being purchased from the lfs today. When do I start the 72 hrs, from when they enter the first tank or when I purchased them? I assume when they entered the first tank.

My first transfer always ends up shorter than 72 hours. I transfer every 3 days and count the day the fish are first added as 1 day, regardless of what time they were added. The remaining transfers are then right at 72 hours since I always transfer first thing in the morning.
You don't want to exceed 72 hours but coming up short is fine.

You say you count the day the fish are added as 1, what does that mean exactly? Adding a fish at 8am vs 8pm is quite different.

Whether I add at 8 am or 8 pm I still count that as day 1. For example if you bought today and added them to the first tank and plan on doing your transfers in the morning then you would transfer on Tuesday morning then again on Friday morning. This is how I have been doing it and has worked every time.

Ok so your first transfer is less than 72 hrs always unless you put them in the tank the same time you do transfers. Wouldn't the most accurate way be to count 72 hrs from when they enter the first tank? Is it okay if I just do that?

I was under the impression that you would have to do an additional transfer if you do more frequently than 72hrs in order to ensure you have 12 full days.

You are perfectly fine to do it the way you are describing.

Basic guidelines I follow is 12 days and no longer than 72 hours between transfers. 1st day for me though is just a short day. My preference is to tranfer very early in the morning before work.

Kinda confusing the first time I admit. Here is how I do it.
Day 1 - Don't care what time
Day 2 - Full Day
Day 3 - Full and prep the next tank that nite.
Day 4 - Move fish before work and start the clock over.
Day 5 - Full Day
Day 6 - Full Day and prep next tank that nite

Repeat for days 7 - 12 then into observational QT for 4-6 weeks.
