I am going on 72 hrs (2 pm) for 2 damselfish that had been in QT before starting TTM. A few ?'s do I have to be right on the 72 hr time for the next transfer and should I treat the 10 gallons that I am using with Prazipro for the next 72 hrs? I also have some Cuprion that I bought and haven't used.
This is the first time I have done QT and the TTM method.
I'm trying to get a good system of QT and everything that goes into adding new to my main display that 7 months old on the 14th.

it needs to be before the 72 mark. it should be viewed as UP TO 72 hours before transfers.

i give two full rounds of prazi during TTM with a few days break in between. this means i am medicating during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd xfer they have prazi, break for the 4th, then 5th and 6th.

i don't know what Cuprion is, i am assuming a copper based med? if so, i wouldn't use it. i only use prazi and ammonia locker in my TTM tanks (fyi ammonia lockers plus a copper medication can be deadly to fish).

Thx so I'm not sure about the 2 pm I think it was more like 1:30 I will write it down this time.
so if I do 12pm I should be good? and yes I'm am using Prime for the ammonia on the 2and day in the new water and everything.

12pm should be good. i usually cycle on 48 hours in between with a total of 7 transfers, easiest for me to remember.

i also keep a schedule posted in my QT area, with the date, day, and rough time i want to do the transfers, then put check marks on the list when they're done. once the TTM is complete i copy this information in to my charts.

not that you need to do that, but i like hanging on to that information for at least some amount of time. with more delicate fish i also note feeding response, or any other observations/concerns.

Tx I have a calendar in my fish room and I did mark the days down for 72 hrs but you say 48 hrs I have read many posts and still don't really know the min and max time.

Yes 12pm is fine. You can transfer any time before 72 hours has passed. The idea is to break the life cycle of the beast. Once the ich falls off the fish and starts to reproduce in the sand, it take more than 72 hours before the ich leaves the sand to find a fish host. As long as you transfer the fish before 72 hours you know that any ich that left of the fish did not reinfect the fish with new babies. By transferring the fish multiple time you break the ich lifecycle. Hope this helps.

When I do TTM, I do my first transfer as late at night as I possibly can, so I can do each transfer an hour behind. My first one was at 11pm last time, the next was 10pm, then 9 pm and then 8pm, etc. I tried to account for work and even traffic, in case there was an accident and I got held up, I wouldn't be screwed.

There really is not minimum. You could transfer the fish daily if you want. The key is to break the lifecycle.

Ich Cycle
1. Ich burrows into fish then stays there 3-9 days
2. Drops offs off fish and settles into sand. It takes less than 18 hours
3. Makes babies in sand. This last 3-28 days
4. Babies are released into water to find a new host. They can live 48 hours like this
5. If they find a host the cycle repeats

So you could do daily changes for two weeks and be fine. You would just waste time and water doing it daily. You just do not want to go over 72 hours because you are breaking the cycle in step 3 of the above.

I wouldn't bother with any copper medication since you're already doing TTM. For prazi, my one recommendation is make sure your fish are eating fine. If in this first tank they are eating well and seem a healthy weight, go for it with the prazi. I find it really suppresses the fishes appetite, and I'd rather seem them eating healthily in QT than adding more medication. If they are eating fine, dose the prazi in the 2nd and 4th tank. May take a day in the 3rd tank for them to get back to eating well but shouldn't have any real issues.

thx again they are in their new 10 gal tub with some Prazipro added to the sw and they are okay. I wonder about the feeding I have been giving them a very little food because of having no filter and am worried about the ammonia build up but the first 3 days seemed to go okay.

i feed heavily and offset it with an ammonia locker and daily water changes where i siphon out all uneaten food.

as long as you're diligent about siphoning out old food and any other mess, and changing out the water (i usually did 50 - 75% change when i siphoned) you should be fine.

You can feed them a little with no problem. Try to remove any waste from the bottom of the tank and you should be fine.
