tube anemones, tell me about them

I've had mine for 7years and is still living. I am not sure about it being a coral, mine has been through many tanks and crashes and is still in my tank. Very hardy and very nice.

they are very nice. They will fluoresce like no other.

be careful with your fishes and corals though. Their tentacles are long and could sting nearby corals.

I got rid of mine when I converted to BB.

They are really a tube worm not an anenome. Yes, they are relitively easy to keep. I've had mine for years and spot feed it mysis and BS. Like said in this post my tank crashed a few times and the purple worm lives.

actually they are an anemone not a worm, but are dirrectly related to sea anemones and corals. Easy to care for, feed them some shrimp every now and then and keep them out of really high current. They like moderate current. Note: they sting virtually everything, so keep them away (far away) from other corals. Their sting is potent. In addition they can eat fish like mandarins, pipefish and seahorses or anything that blunders into their tentacles. Absolutely gorgeous thought. I once saw an aquarium that had lots of tuffa rock with holes drilled into it for two inch diameter pvc then two inch pvc tubes capped on one end and filled with find calcareous sand. In these tubes (it was a 55 gallon tank, I think their were fifty tubes or so) were every color of tube anemone that I can think of, even a few cool neon green ones. Amazing, it looked like an alien landscape. The only problem was the owner really had a hard time keeping fish in the tank as the anemones pretty much filled the water with their tentacles. He eventually kept a variety of shrimp and a few rather tough fish (I beleive they were fridmanis but it was a long time ago). Amazing tank.

hello from Spain.

I'm also keeping one of them for more than 5 years and is very easy to maintain, the only problem with cerianthus is that some species have the tendency to leave the tube and move freely around the tank with the risk that it suposes to the other tankmates. If you purchase one of the ones you show in the webpage above the risk is less important because they do not normally move.

Mine is kept inside a coconut worm tube so whenever I decide I can move it from one place to another without damaging the mucus tube in which it is located. in particular, it is very convenient if you want to refurbish the decor of the tank.

Good luck with it¡
