Doesn't look good to me. I would at least try to get them out of the tank unless you know for sure what they are and if they are good. Do you have a quarantine tank that you can acclimate them to and then put them in so if they are good then you can keep them?

Colonial hydroids, can sting/irritate corals. Peppermint shrimp are supposed to eat them, but they tend to be hit or miss. There numbers will diminish as food decreases, keep your water pristine and they will die off.

They have just kind of popped up here and there. Some have developed into small clusters, others are just singles here or there. I have been removing the rocks near the top, pulling them off and replacing the rocks. Near the bottom where I would need to tear the whole tank apart I have just left them. I just replaced the bulb on my UV sterilizer and started running a scrubber (micron filter) on my tank. Hopefully that will help stop them from srpeading.

Thanks for the info. I have a couple peppermint shrimp. Don't seem to do much with these guys. Added a scrubber filter temporarily to keep food down. Will see if that does anything ot help.

I sued to shoot them with thick kalk paste through a giant needle--pile it up on them and then scrub with a toothbrush.

I'm starting to have a very bad feeling... I have bunches of these things in my tank, always thought they were harmless (if ugly) little feather dusters. Are these hydroids?

Buy some kalkwasser from a LFS and add some water to the powder until it becomes a paste. Shouldn't take too much, it's pretty potent.
