Tucson Tank Tour ???

Whenever I travel, I enjoy visiting various LFS's, public aquariums and different individuals aquariums. I always come away with new ideas on plumbing, lighting, husbandry and the raising/keeping of various corals and marine life. Perhaps more beneficial, I forge new relationships with other hobbyist.

Would there be any interest from the Tucson Reef Keepers in having some sort of Tucson tank tour? Perhaps we can get Sea, GQ and Oasis to help organize and sponsor. One weekend we could visit tanks on the East/Southeast side. Another weekend the Northwest and so on. I mention our LFS primarily because they service a lot of tanks.

At each location the affiliated LFS (if there is one) or tank owner can offer refreshments, frags, or something... I don't know.

The thought is in its infancy and I am curious to see if there would be interest from all of you in getting something going.

Thanks.

Sounds like fun Dan, does that mean I finally get to see that master piece you've put together?

Back in my day this is what Monthly Frag swaps were for! And generous LFS always sent items to be raffled or auctioned, even if they were not attending. And to piggy back on what Dan said, NO one knows everything about this hobby, and what keeps this a thriving hobby are the hobbyists with a common goal of keeping a thriving saltwater aquarium and the many many different talents and minds that people's everyday careers, jobs, experiences and other talents and hobby's that people have that they incorporate into their tanks which make each tank different and unique. It's up to us to encourage those who don't participate in these forums, frag swaps, trading etc. to get involved in this very exciting hobby.

Ok so who's having a frag swap! Lol

Yes! That is what pulled me into saltwater in the first place...getting to see some of the innovations and awesomeness that people have conjured! I would LOVE to see some of the hidden treasures out there!!! :D

I'd be happy to have everyone over if we could pick a weekend day that works for for most of us. Perhaps we could turn it into a frag swap or I am sure that we can get SEA to participate in some fashion. Perhaps others too. As long as there is not a U of A basketball game that day - I am good!

I want to set something up, if there is interest, to visit other tanks too. I want to see yours and what makes it successful. One Sunday hit the East side, another Sunday the NW and so on....

I am hoping that we get a good response from Tucson reefers to participate in something like this.

Hopefully we can get the fish stores to get some others involved that aren't crazy forum junkies like me. I would absolutely love to see some more community interaction in Tucson, our neibors to the north make us look real bad in that department. Even this forum only gets like three posts a week.

I think its a nifty idea, another possiblity would be to find someone with really good photography skills to compile a photo tour of the tanks

That's an excellent idea! We could probably get Griffin from over at SEA to come out with his camera and shoot pics from everywhere. I know that he is a photography major out at the U of A.

my wife kinda freaked at this idea, what were some of the other reactions?? I think it would be very cool, I may just have to bribe her with something....

I think it has been pretty good. I spoke to Michael at SEA and he thought of 5 different reefers that would be interested.

My wife is weird about having a bunch of strangers over too but she'll get over it. I don't think I'd get away with a frag swap or BBQ but a visit will be OK.
