Tunze 3155 Help

Dolphin Finatic
I'' be ordering this Friday and want to some pre-plumbing. Right now I have a 10g tank under the stand I put the topoff water in, but would like to reclaim that space for something else.

My reservoir is about 20 feet away or less, it is a 33 gallon brute trash can. Will the 3155 be able to push pull water this far ? I'd like to keep the controller under the stand which houses the sump. How would I prevent a siphon and where would be the best place to run lines out of the reservoir and to the sump. I included a crude drawing to show roughly how the sump is in relation to the reservoir. Please advise, thanks.

This would potentially be a recipe for disaster. You must pump up so the end point of the hose is above the water level in the reservoir, the best is to pump to your overflow box. I would also never use a reservoir that holds more water than your system could absorb in a worst case scenario, i.e. enough water to flood or to dilute the saltwater to a lethal level. I would stick with a reservoir of 5-10 gallons near the tank. The pump can handle 8ft of head and can pump long lateral runs, but this requires more tubing and extending wiring and adds a lot more headache and potential problems with shorted connections and pump struggling to prime.

I figured this out once I found another thread where you discussed this with someone else. I had thought about suspending the pump about 10" below the reservoir water line, but this may be more of a problem than it it worth.

Water changes wouldn't be part of the equation, but basically, a good size reservoir can handle 1-2 weeks of evaporation, typically 10 gallons should be sufficient for a tank of that size.
