Tunze 3155 won't pump water

Ok so i just got a tunze 3155 literally 2 weeks ago from bulk reef supply brand new.

So the first week and a half it worked like a champ keeping my levels and salinity where i wanted it. But the past couple of days it has stopped pumping water when the level drops. The controller says the water level is where it should be so no red light comes on saying water is too low. so anyway i soaked the optical eye in vinegar for like 15 mins as i do use kalkwasser on my top off water but that didn't help..

I'm a little upset because this unit is only 2 weeks old. I have an old jbj autotop off for 2 years and still works like a champ have to clean it once a month but it always pumps water when its supposed to.

Any ideas or help is appriciated.

Thanks

This should be a fairly simple issue to diagnose.

The too low light has nothing to do with the optic sensor being dirty, this light comes on when the pump was given power for 10 minutes to top off and a top off was not registered. It is strictly based on a timer, basically the water went below the sensor, the controller triggered the pump to run and after 10 minutes the sensor still did not register that the water level was correct. The issue will be the pump.

1) Make sure the pump is not airlocked, it will generally need to be tipped upside down when first submerged or when an empty reservoir is refilled to eliminate a bubble inside which will prevent it from priming. Try this and see if it then pumps. If this works and the water is not so low that more than 2.5 gallons is needed, you should be all set, in 10 minutes it pumps about 2.5 gallons.

2) If this does not solve it, we need to test the pump. Disconnect it from the controller, touch the bare wires to the terminals of a 9V battery, if it does not run, we know it is the pump, if it runs (makes noise) then look at the impeller through the bottom opening, does it turn or is it stuck or slipping so the motor turns without the impeller. In this case we will need to send you a replacement pump.

Hello,

The pump works and it pumps water in fine but when the level drops slowly the eye somehow dosen't see that... and lets it drop way below without triggering the pump to go on..

Please Advise

Ps: i have to go in there and splash the water around a few times and in order for the pump to start pumping in water and it pumps in a lotta of water to go back to the water line i have set it up..

Do you see anything on the optic sensor? A scratch, a piece of debris, algae, etc? Anything that is obstructing it could cause this.
