I am trying to start up the tunze turbo calciun reaktor 3174. I cant get the pump to fill the reactor and pump water out of the top.( step one) I have taken apart the pump and it seems to be working well. can you please help me get this guy running. In the process trying to set up, I have completly filled my tank with a white haze. Is this Ok??

It should fill the reactor, but it takes a couple minutes, you want to leave the cap off while it fills so the back pressure of the air in the chamber is relieved. The white haze is just dust, just like when you add new sand, it won't hurt anything.

There was so granulate in the pump that has stopped the pump. I took it apart and cleared. do I leave the the setting to 160. How many minutes should it take?

I set back in sump and reactor fills mostly with water but does not ever overflow..I do see air bubbles slowly rising

My mistake, I was thinking of the 3170, the 3174 is 6-12 years old, it has been a long time since I have used one. Could you stop by with it this week? The 3174 took in water through the pump inside, there should be a slotted plate on the front of the skimmer, there were a few incarnations of the 3174. The last one used the 210 pump, the oldest ones used a small pump from AquaBee. It was a fairly weak reactor because it used a passive flow system and didn't dissolve CO2 as well as more modern reactors.

where do I bring it. was at aquatek today and bruce tried to help.
now the reactor is filled with water without bubbles. with the cap on. no water comes out of the valve.. Any ideas from here.

The 3174 had to be submerged fairly deep, about 9"minimum in order for it to work. You could bring it by the warehouse, we are off of Braker near 35, or I could meet you at AquaTek if you prefer.

The directions say it should be only 1.5 cm to 1 M
Is that incorrect?
How early can I bring it you you?
What is your address?

I turned my return pump off to increase my water level and it started to pee water. how does the valve work?? no matter what way I turn it, water still comes out in a constant streem

I get here at 9:30am, I would prefer if you came by after 10:30 and before 1, this would give me time to get the orders going and get everyone on task. Alternatively, you could drop it off with Bruce and I could come by and get it running at the shop. It sounds like you have the 3174/3 which was the last version, it was made from 6/2002-8/2004. The PDF I have says 150mm-1m which is 15cm or about 6", my experience was that 7.5-8" was the absolute minimum it would work with and the best results were with 9-10"

There should be a very small tip on the end of the valve with a small hole that reduces the flow to a drip. It is a part that is about 1cm long and 1/2 a cm wide, it plugs into the hole on the end of the valve and has a hole that is at 90 degrees from the valve. The valve should reduce the flow and the tip further restricts it to a drip, the valve may be in backwards.

The valve does not have that small tip.. it is shaped like a T. in the inside of the reactor, it has an angled nipple that is attached to to the black tube from the reactor.. on the outside of the housing, there are two outputs. The one on the side where the co2 tube enters the reactor always has water running out of it regardless of the position of the valve. If i plug that side, then the valve seems to work and I can control the # of drops coming out of the other output. Why are there two outputs from the reactor?
