Tunze 5017 controller issues

So first I had a 5000.020 pump that slowly went out on me. It would barely spin and eventually all the lights on the meter would turn red and the unit would beep.

So I unplugged the controller and ordered another 5000.020 pump. It just arrived and now the controller will not power on when I plug it in. When I remove the plug from the outlet I will briefly see the leds flash. Any ideas? The controller was working the last time I used it.

Well I checked the pumps with a 9v battery and they both worked. Overnighted a new power supply. Hopefully it's the power supply and not the controller : /

How old is the controller? If it was made prior to 2008, this is a compatability issue between new pumps and old controllers, the pump was beefed up a bit in 2008 and needs more power, if it literally slowed to a stop this is the controller shutting it off for exceding the current limit which was 800mA prior to 2008. To get it below this limit you need the original 9V or switchable 9-12V set to 9 power supplies these older units came with. The pump connections also need to be very clean. Keep in mind the battery test is only conclusive when the pump does not work, then we know we have a dead pump, but working with a battery is possible because the battery has no current limiting safety, the pump can still be partially shorted or seized.

The original pump/controller is less then a year old. Ordered in march of this year. The controller will not stay lit for either pump. It is located In a closet away from any water so I don't think its a corrosion issue. The controller should light up even without a pump connected to the alligator clips correct?

Yes, it should show that it is trying to run the pump. If it is less than two years old and not water damaged it would be under warranty, but if it does not light up with no pump, something is likely wrong with the controller and it should be sent in with the pump and power supply as likely one of these was the root issue.
