Tunze 6025 vs Hydor Koralia Evolution 750??

Has anyone owned both and can give me an idea of the flow difference if any. Seems to me I read somewhere that the Tunze Nanostream 6025 out performed the Hydor Koralia Evolution 750 even though the hydor is suposed to have more flow. I'm looking to by 2 new powerheads for the 40B and I'm thinking about going with the Tunze 6025 this time around.

I never used the Nanostream before but I do have 2 Koralia Evo 1400 and I found them very disappointing. In my 4' tank the flow barely reach half way across and it felt super weak. I much prefer my old Maxi-jet 1200 with the Sure Flow mod kit, that thing put out so much flow (it is rated at 2000 GPH with the big propeller). I was using 3 Maxi-jet + Sure Flow in my old 40B and it felt just right. Now I am using 3 Maxi and the 2 Koralia on a timer in my 75g, I wish I bought 2 more Maxi instead of the Koralia. This is for an SPS dominated tank.

I've been using 2 tunze 6025's for 3+ years now. I love them. I tried a MP40 and ended up selling it and going back to the 6025's.

They're reasonably priced, they only use 7 watts, and they can achieve 1200 gph with some relatively easy mods. The profile is a bit smaller than the koralia.

Thanks I'm really leaning towards them. You are using them in a 90? Are you getting good flow with only the tunze’s or do these complement a closed loop return?

I've always had some type of sump with a return pump with them. I've used them with:
-55G and a mag 5 return pump
-75 and 90G with an eheim 1262 return pump
-currently with a 90G with a blueline 55 return pump

Send me a PM if you find yourself in Buffalo. You're welcome to come by and check them out.

Thanks for the offer appreciate it. What mod and how much extra flow does the mod make? I only have a 40B right now but I’m planning to set my 90 back up sometime down the road so maybe they would be good in the 40B without the mod and when I set the 90 back up I could go with the mod. Or do you think they would be to much for the 40?

They were ok when I had them in my 55 stock. Way too much when I modded them.

"They say" that you can get them up to 1200gph fully modded. The simplest mod is to hollow out the inside cover. That probably improves the flow by 30%. I measured this scientifically by modding one and leaving one stock and moving my hand back and forth. The difference is extremely noticeable. Other mods include removing bars from the front and rear cover and sawing off the "nose". I never felt the need to try that.

The downside to the mods is that the impeller can start in reverse when the front cover is hollowed. The warranty is invalidated if you do anything to the rear cover. Motor and impeller are covered if you only mod the front.
