Tunze 6080 impeller

Hi,

I have two Tunze 6080's that have been in service since 2005 with no problems! Love them. I just soaked them in a solution of water and muriatic for perhaps too long. When I opened the unit this is what I found:

From searching it looks like the following two parts might work for replacements?

http://www.tunze.com/details.html?&L=1&C=US&user_tunzeprod_pi1[prodid]=6080.600

http://www.tunze.com/details.html?&L=1&C=US&user_tunzeprod_pi1[prodid]=6080.120

Can you confirm? Hoping if I can replace this for both units I can be back in business.

Yes, those are the correct parts.

Be very careful with Muriatic acid, it is not so much the pH that is the issue, dilution still has some risk, Muriatic acid is strongly electronegative, it reacts with many plastics and forms hydrogen bonds so they swell and deform, also the brake shoes on the drive unit are made of nylon and nylon dissolves in strong acids. It is better to use only vinegar or citric acid, it takes longer, but it is very safe for the plastic. Phosphoric is a nice in between, if diluted it is also quite safe but works reasonably fast.

ok thanks for the insight. i really have to be careful. so, with that in mind, I'm wondering if I should put the replacement cost ($52) towards a new tunze? What current models are comparable to my older 6080? ie - 6085?

The 6085, however, the AC syncronous pumps can last a couple decades, I don't know that their is a good reason to replace it unless you just want the newer more compact design. I wouldn't assume the motor has numbered days left and needs to be replaced, actually the pumps we made at that time were largely hand made and as a result were either really robust or had a defect that showed early like a weak solder joint, once they get to this age only mechanical wear and abuse is likely to kill them.

ok, I'm sold then :-) i really do love the pumps so will keep them and try the new impleller shaft and propeller. thanks so much!
