Tunze 6095, 6105 or MP10 Vortech

I have an 80 Gallon Square Back Hex Front reef tank (48W 30T 15D) with a Sicce Syncra Multi Pump 5.0 (1321 gph) return pump from the sump, and am looking at my stream flow options.

A.) 2 Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Controllable Pump 6095 (New Generation with Titanium Alloy Shaft) w/ a Tunze Wavecontroller 7092.

B.) 2 Tunze Turbelle Stream 2 Controllable Pump 6105 (New Generation with Titanium Alloy Shaft) w/ a Tunze Wavecontroller 7092.

C. 2 EcoTech Marine MP10 Vortech Propeller Pump w/ EcoSMART Driver

Any opinions? Any other suggestions?

Me I like the 6105's I have them in a 75gl 48" tank, I also have two in my 210gl tank. The only issue is you will not want to run them at the 24v setting on high. Thats ok they come with three different power jumpers plus the varrible control of the 7092. IMHO this is a setup that cannot be beat. One other nice thing if you ever decide to upgrade to a larger tank those 6105 will work nicely in a tank up to 220gl according to Roger at Tunze.

You may see alot of people disagreeing with me and say Vortech are the best... Both are great pumps. I just like the Tunze over the Vortech for a couple of reasons. The first is Tunze are dead silent, the second is I do not like the look of what I call Mickeymouse ears hanging on the outside of the tank. To be fair the Vortech will take up less room inside the tank. I think you would be happy with either, but if upgradability is an issue two MP 10 may not be the way to go.

i like the tunzes better also..
although, vortech has the lower profile, i find them noisier than the tunzes and i like the ability to direct the flow exactly where i want it, which you don't have with the vortechs.

I ran the old tunze for along time. 6101 styles and loved them, switched to the mp40 because of all the hype and they are not what I expected. Flow is terrible and flow rate is even worse. I will be switching back to tunze real soon.

Both those Tunze pumps are more like the MP40, or larger.
I ran an MP40 for 5 days, and got tired of always feeling like the dishwasher was running or that someone was vacuuming.

I agree with the dual 6095's with the 7096 controller. It'll give you a wave.

I would go with tunze. I have a total of 5 vortech in two different tanks!!! They are at 70%. Dude!!! They are freaking loud!!!!!!!!! Very nice pump otherwise.

Lots of good suggestions and opinions here. Between the 6095 and the 6105, I would probably lean towards the 6095. But this could change depending on what kinds of corals you plan to keep or if you expect to get a larger tank in the future.

So, any ideas for what corals you'll keep?

I have soft corals: Leathers, Colts, Mushrooms, Frogspawn, Torch, Star Polyps, A Few Clams. I don't see a larger tank in the next 3 to 5 years.

If that is the case I would go with a pair of 6055's, none of those things listed are going to like a super fast flow in the tank. The 6055's will be more than enough.

Go with anything other than the MP10Wes ,MP10 will require more than 50% Over 50% you will here them. If you have the OCD hearing any device thing go with an internal power head. Internal will be silent and you will be happy.

I have 2 MP40Wes on a 76G and keep them under 50% , designed plan for me personally in order to keep less stress on the power heads and keep them silent. This is expensive and expensive, so I bought used. I can adjust these to incredible variable settings with the color lit control pad that indicates modes and settings . Customer support is outstanding and any intricate part of the units are online in their catalog. Mine are mounted out of sight on the back of my tank because it is a half circle.

Vortechs are not silent over 50% , under 50% your going to be happier if no sound is your goal.

...but silence is the goal for most. keeping a good budget and practical use with great quality.
Only go with Vortech if you go bigger and want all of those adjustments.

I have no experience with any other and my reading shows that those that have been tanking for years and years go with what they have always had...a silent internal , quality unit. Some of these internal units have adjust ability "if" you hook them to a Computer, so that is pretty cool.

I would actually lean towards the 6095's. Despite being more powerful their flow profile is much wider and more dispersed. In that size tank the longer reach of the 6055's won't do you any good and you will be able to keep corals closer to the output of the 6095's.

I would only look to the 6105 if you were planning on upgrading. Even an SPS dominant tank of your size would be okay with the nanostreams.

The MP10's IMO are too small for that size tank. While it would yield adequate flow I feel the MP40 with an MP10, or another MP40, would be a better route.

i say 6105. most versatile and you you cannnn upgrade or switch settings for sps etc. if i were you i woulnt get the tunze controller. get the apex controller it can be had for about the same price depending upon what model you get and it will do all the tunze controller will do plus give you complete control over your tank.

I'm going with 6105's in my 180. Talked to Tunze about 6095's and was recommend to go with 6105 dialed down a bit plus you always have the option of running 3 units with either one you go with. The 6095s have the wide flow nozzle and are a lot smaller than the 6105s if size is an issue

i had the same questions about the two and just read the whol thread i think i will go with te tunze as well good luck to u too humu humu

A pair of 6095s will be perfect for your size tank with these corals.

Jerpa explained it best:

Since the introduction of the 6095, the 6055 has been relegated to a more niche role. Though it is still popular for longer tanks requiring higher velocity flow (SPS dominant), the 6095 is the better and more popular choice for most mixed reefs.
