How long have they been in use? A click on start up is caused by the electromagnet energizing and pulling the drive unit down abruptly. The culprits will typically be a drive unit that sticks and does not smoothly slide up and down the shaft and often this will just polish/wear out if run for a couple weeks in a non off and on mode. Their is a disk 3005.740 at the base of the shaft, this is down in the pump and to remove it you would slide it up the shaft with a pick/hook tool. This disk is hard plastic wearing surface in a silicon shock absorber cup. This might be missing but it is rare. I would check that this disk is present, rinse the drive unit and pump to remove any debris that could cause it to bind (fine sand, packing dust) try running it two weeks to see if their is any improvement and if not, try swapping the drive unit from the quiet pump. If this removes the noise we know replacing the drive unit will likely solve it, if not then typically a second disk will solve it as this will shim the distance of travel. In general the pumps will see a 50% reduction in noise after 2 weeks of use, and a further 50% after 4 more weeks as the parts seat and wear in. The quietest and lowest maintenance is always to pulse from a high speed to a low speed and not off and on, more calcium build up occurs in off and on pulsing and more frequent cleaning is needed and there will typically be some click from off and on but it should not be that loud.
