Tunze 6105's are Dead

After much debate I opted to purchase 2 new 6105's for my 210 reef.

These are equipped with titanium shafts (good).

After three months they seized (bad).

I took apart cleaned according to instruction on this forum. I made sure the magnet and propeller spun freely. But once reassembled, the magnet still grinds against the interior wall of the pump and they are still inoperable.

I really love the performance of these pumps and don't want to give up on them.

Please advise.

Thanks.

This should be a simple DIY issue, something is assembled wrong.

First, remove the shaft from the magnet and prop, make sure it is clean and the drive magnet with prop can slide up and down and spin. Make sure the disk 3005.740 with attenuation bushing is properly installed at the bottom of the shaft, under the magnet, it should look just like the photo of 6105.700 on our website when assembled, the slot in the disk faces up and the blue silicon is underneath it.

The most likely cause is that a blue bushing on the end of the shaft is missing, the shaft was bent if forcibly removed, the disk is on wrong or the front cover is not on 100%, check the gap between the two hemispheres, it should be even and just about the thickness of a fingernail all the way around if all tabs are engaged properly.

Thanks Roger-

I have read many of your posts and I think we can all agree we are all very appreciative.

I checked and double checked, all is welll with the re-assembly after cleaning.

Shafts are perfectly straight.

The magnets on the other hand have shown uneven wear patterns, upon further inspection of the motor cavity, it seems there are multiple deformations causing these wear problems. On one pump, a couple of holes in the inner surface can be seen and rust has leached out.

Thanks again
Zach

The only ways I can imagine this could happen is gravel entering the pump or the blue bushings being missing, otherwise these surfaces should never make contact. Please send them in, include a return address and phone number-

Hello Roger,

Did you receive the 6015's I sent?

Do you have an estimate when the warranty/replacement pumps will be sent back to me.

I read another post your turnaround time is about 24hrs.

Much appreciated, my tank is looking much less exciting without em.

Zach

We haven't received them yet, but typically the day after a repair arrives it is done and shipped back by UPS ground. For this item any part we would need is in stock.
