Tunze 7096 controller

According to Reef Specialty they have them available on their website for sale now. The new 7096 controller works off your PC and has wave box capabilities without the box, using your 6100s to create the wave! The neat thing about these is there cheaper than the 7095 because your PC does all the heavy lifting so to speak. Guess I need to see what I can sell so I can get one of these.

Here is a link to the tunze website

gotta love it when this site's vb code breaks a link up cause it has special characters....marine depot links are the worst for this site making the link not work.

best workaround is to goto www.tinyurl.com & make a tinyurl that forwards to the correct one :D

i'm just sayin......LOL

anywhoo, here's the link to the controller bill was talkin about:

OK Roger Vitgo of Tunze has chimed in and say's they will not be ready for sale until March. There is three of them out there being test run but for now that's it. Reef Specialty"s ad leads you to think they have them now, Wrong there taking preorders at that price. Sorry for the confusion but this will be first on my want list.

The controller will rock! I currently use an aquasurf which works with the AquaController. It is pretty much the same, but does not require connectivity with a computer to program it ... you do it right on the AC. I think this is a better option because it takes quite a bit of experimentation to determine the resonant frequency of your tank. It would have been a nightmare to have to go back and forth to the computer to adjust the on/off times.... wait, i do own a laptop :)

I am able to get a nice wave using two Tunze 6100 on my 180. I am so glad that we are now able to accomplish this without those ugly boxes!

They are the reason (Boxes) that I have waited for this to come alonge. I guess a little while longer won't kill me! And yes I have a laptop too!

well i have a question about controls. Please excuse my ignorance on the subject. I have been looking and trying to understand all the information/capabilities of controller. But my finite mine just can't seem to wrap around all the stuff. Like what is CO2 used for. If the PH is low does it correct it? If the temperature is to high/low does it correct it. I meant these sites where they are sold dont really tell you the advantages to having one and what it does. So if there is a site that anyone can point me to that would be great. Again please excuse my ignorance on thus subject. Another question. When does it become necessary to have a controller?

i am with a few others i love my aqua surf and ACIII
i have different waves and flows for different times of day

I think you may be confusing types of controllers under discussion here, the 7096 Tunze controller is only used to control Tunze power heads and does a great job of creating a mixed water flow in a tank. But that is about all it does. The other type of controller you may be thinking of are electronic controllers that can control many pieces of equipment, and monitor water conditions via probes. The measurments then can control a calcium reactor for example and turn it on or off depending on the ph reading of the probe, the same with heaters, the controller will turn it on or off based on the probes reading of the water temp. It can turn on and off pumps or lights as you program it to. The more expensive models can even be controlled via the internet from vacation spots allowing you to monitor your tank while away.

While controllers are not a required item to reef keepers, they are some real tools that help you maintain a stable tank, I would recommend one to anyone. I use only the Aquacontroller Jr. But would not want to do without one. I hope that helps explain it some. and that did not fully answer all the controllers can do, they turn on and off dosing pumps and the software can control so many things in the aquarium, again based on the make and model you get. Read that how much money you spend on one.

OK, did not mean to write a book here,(now I sound like Brain). But if you don't have one and are serious about reef keeping, put one on the top of your next equipment purchase list:)

Good explanation Norman! Here are some examples of the logic that i have running on my ACJR (in plain english not AC syntax) ... These are just a few of the many statements :)

Temperature Control

If temperature goes over 80.3 the turn on my fans
If temperature is 80 turn off my fans
if temperature drops below 79.7 then turn on my heaters
If temperature is 80 turn off my heater

Light Control

If time is 1pm turn on actinics
if time is 2pm turn on all lights
if time is 10pm turn off all lights
If time is 11pm turn off actinics
if all lights off turn refugium light on

Wavemaker

If all lights are off go on gentle mode
if actinics on go on wave mode
if time is 4pm go on random wave mode
if time is 7pm go back to wave mode

Those are just a few examples but the is so much you can do. If you run a Calcium Reactor then you can control that via PH values ... you can program kalk stirrers, Auto Top Off and the list goes on.

One of the best things i ever invested in, hands down!

A controller lets you live your life without worrying about the tank all the time! But most importantly adds stability to your tank like forgetting to turn the lights on or off or not topping off for days because you forgot, keeping temp stable, running Ca reactor etc. It's easier to only remember to feed them versus all the other things a controller does for you, It would be too much work over time and you may loose interest. I agree with all the above comments and the list goes on.

You are right norman i was confused about what was being discussed here. That being said, I have got some very useful information from you guys. So if i was going to get a controller would the ACjr be a good one to start with. I have read some about it. There is one thing that i am a little confused on still though. In order for it control PH i need a CO2 device of some sort or a calcium reactor? And is it able to control the powerheads that i currently have or does this require special powerheads?

The AC Jr. (the one I have) will monitor pH, you will then need something to change the pH, which could be a calcium reactor, a kalkwasser stirrer, or a dosing pump that would add some limewater or kalkwasser or some other pH additive, which would be an additional expense.

It is able to control the powerheads if plugged in with the controller, however if you are thinking of wavemaking capabilities you need powerheads capable of that. It can turn them off during a feeding cycle for example or turn them off and on, but some powerheads don't take well to cycling on and off repeatedly. Koralla for example make a loud clunking noise when turned on and doing it a lot will shorten the life of the Powerhead.

You could however turn them off at night or cycle them every few hours. Most of that depends on what the manufacturer recommends. Hope that helped some.

and some can also send you a text message to your phone if something gets out of wack. its insurance for your tank. I love my octopus 4000. one of the best tool for a reeftank.
