I have had my Tunze 9002 running for 3 weeks now and it is creating a lot of tiny bubbles that have made it into my tank. I know there can be a break-in period for a skimmer, but how long should that take? Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
These bubble are not always due to technical causes. Check if the bubbles get worse as the day light hours progress, if so this is due to oxygen saturation and thinning out algae and fast growing corals and resucing light intensity or duration will be the fix. If the KH is above 14 CO2 saturation can be a culprit. If you use any sort of dechlorinator or stress coat or vitamin this affects the surface tension and bubbles carry further much as they would in soapy water. Typically if the reason is purely technical due to breaking in it resolves itself within a few weeks.
Update: Yesterday I put my skimmer in the display and tested it. I could see a steady stream of bubbles coming out from the bottom. I have also noticed that my Tunze had not been producing much since first put it in the tank.I thought it was because I didn't have any livestock other than a small CUC. Looking from the top there were not many if any bubbles with the vent wide open. So I took off the top and didn't see any problems, but when placing it back on the skimmer I noticed that the tube was folding and forming a kink. After some adjustment it fixed both problems.
