Tunze 9002 cup fills with water

Hi,

I have a Tunze 9002 and I can't seem to get it working correctly. At this point I have the valve all the way closed and have the skimmer raised a little over the water line. I have tried raising it to several positions and I still have the same problem. This has been going on for a couple days now.

Any advice would be awesome.

Thanks

Have you added any of these items to the tank-

Slime algae killer, medication, dechlorinator, stress coat, vitamins, amino acids, new filter floss, Seachem Purigen.

No I haven't. The tank has actually only been up for 8 weeks. There is a fish and some CUC in there right now and I am wanting to get the skimmer working properly for when I add more. The skimmer is used, but it came from a friend of mine from his old tank.

It was working fine in his tank. I would check out the tank every couple weeks and never saw any problems. The clean up crew is about 8 snails and an emerald crab.

We have to assume it is some issue of the water chemistry or the way it is adjusted since it worked well in the past. I would double check that the air adjustment screw is not open too far and that the water level is 1/4-1/2" below the marked line. Besides that, if it keeps skimming water, I would empty the cup as needed and give it time, eventually the chemical causing this reaction will be removed or broken down.

Thanks. I took it out yesterday and cleaned it again and set it back up. Its still filling with water with the air valve screw all the way closed. Im going to continue to let it run like you advised and see if it works its self out.

I think I may have figured this out. If the pump was removed at some point, it likely has been reinstalled so it is aimed at the cup. When properly installed the nozzle of the pump goes through a hole and is aimed at a domed baffle plate to the other side from the cup, the cord has to be looped over the pump to exit the cord grommet. That would explain the issue.
