Tunze 9002 Nano Skimmer - Venturi Pumping Water After Cleaning!?

Hi all,

Had this skimmer running about a year on a QT so completely dismantled it as advised in the manual for its yearly clean as it was rather encrusted with all manner of stuff. Put it back together exactly how it came apart and now the venturi has stopped working!

Water now pumps out of the airline that used to draw air as a the venturi, blow down it and it works but stop blowing and it just pumps water out again.
Took it all apart and put back together again but no different and I cant see what would go wrong as its such a basic set up with few parts.

I know some of them had faulty venturi's from the factory when new but this one's been running a while with no issues and I cant see what would of happened by just soaking all the parts over night and cleaning

As far as I can see the venturi is just the small clear plastic elbow that fits into the nozzle on the outlet of the pump...anyone else have one of these and had a similar problem???

Cheers,

Mark.

The only possibility that comes to mind is that perhaps you lost the inner white nozzle if you opened the nozzle at some point. Inside the nozzle is a white plastic piece that is critical to the unit functioning properly. Besides that if something was blocking the outlet it could also cause this problem. A nozzle that once worked would not have a defect, the defect is a misplacement of the hole for the air intake and such nozzles never work.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for you reply.

The white insert is inside the outlet connection still and all the holes are in-line allowing the small clear elbow to be inserted.

I just don't understand it. I've had the pump out in a bucket of water with the airline attached and its the same...if I blow down the airline I can get an air/water mixture coming from the pump outlet but as soon as I stop water comes out the airline again. There is no blockage with the pumps outlet or the clear elbow.

Thanks,

Mark.

I don't have an answer, I have seen on the older 230 nozzles where a severe scratch or chip would also cause this. I would just get a new nozzle they are not very expensive and you may be able to get it under warranty from Tunze UK or your dealer.

I'll get in touch with Tunze UK for a nozzle. It's a model from 2009 so maybe it has been damaged in the cleaning process, I only left the parts in a week vinegar/water solution over night then gave them a rinse and clean with an old toothbrush

Thanks for the advice and I'll post the outcome whatever happens.

Regards,

Mark.

I have only seen damage when someone uses a knife or pick to scrape off calcium, I am puzzled as well. A deep gouge is required to ruin one.
