I need help understanding how the tunze skimmer 9002 really works, I have been keeping fish for almost 25 years, freshwater only, nowi di the plunge to saltwater, i just bought a jbj 28g nanocube to start, so here is my problem, i bought a nw 9002 skimmer to fit in the center compartment of the nano, the water level is right where it should be on the skimmer, the only thing is that it's doesn't make any foam, i tried unscrewing the blue screm, it filled up the comtainer real fast, i screwed it back in, the it was a little better, and as the foam was starting to appear, all of a sudden it was gone, i am trying to figure out, how to really set it up, if anybody has this skimmer on a smaller tank, is it working for you, I bought this skimmer because all the reviews where saying it was a good one, it has been running for a week now. thanks

great forum

Tagging along. I also have a 9002 with under/over productivity issues. Tanks been up for four years and dosed with vodka. Some days it will overflow the cup as soon as I put it on and some days there's nothing there. Almost like it's not even working.
Any input would be helpful

Vodka dosing adds another variable as basically this creates a bacteria bloom and chemical reactions which will result in erratic skimming.

Don't adjust it based on the foam height, adjust it on what collects in the cup, the foam takes a while to form and rise and the best bet is to open the screw three full turns to start and then adjust it in 1/4 turn increments every 24 hours based on what collects in the cup, close it if the skimmate collected is watery, open it if the skimmate collected is dry, this skimmer will collect a skimmate similar to light iced tea when properly tuned. Always allow 24 hours between adjustments.
