Tunze 9004 - C130 Fit

I've seen conflicting opinions on-line with regard to the 9004 Skimmer fitting in the back of the Red Sea Max C130. Is the jury in on this yet?
I've seen one photo documented sideways fit (with magnets on side), but I've also read a handful of people claim it will not fit.

On another note, I've been using the 6040 power-head for a few weeks now. I have it mounted on the back blowing sideways with the deflector removed. It is an incredible little piece of machinery. Virtually silent with a great controller for pulsing at different powers and time intervals.

I also was able to get the new moonlight/night-mode sensor. The light this thing casts is beautiful with great "shimmer" and gets dimmer and then brighter as the month progresses. Awesome addition to the 6040 that slows down or shuts off the unit when the lights go out.
Another win for Tunze.

Sincerely,
Peejayfran

All the info we have is that it will not fit, we instead recommend the 9001. I would like to see the photos of it fitting and how that was done, my concern is the fit would be so tight as to impede water flow and performance.

Thank you for the feedback on the 6040!

Peejayfran, did you then go for the tunze 9004 in your Red Sea Max c130 ?

Or did you do something else?

I'm going quite crazy here too with the stock skimmer and am looking for possible solutions. I also saw that 1 picture of the person who put a (snug fit) 9004 in his rsm c130 but there is not that much info about it.

Kind regards,

Bart

Thank you for the feedback on the 6040!

thanks for your information. This is very helpful

For fit questions, the best resource tends to be Steve Taggart and InTank.

We rate the 9001 to 37 gallons of mixed reef, 15 gallons of SPS.

mediabaskets.com, he makes all sorts of media trays to retrofit all in one tanks. I have yet to meet anyone who knows more about all these tanks than he does.

So 37 gallons of mixed reef.

That means if I would only put zoanthids and soft corals + 2 ocellaris and 1 kaudernii, then this skimmer should be more than capable ?

Maybe a (at first sight) stupid question. but the back of a red sea max c-130 provides quite a lot of space. If I would ever feel that the tunze 9001 would not be powerfull enough on its own, can't I then simply put another extra 9001 in the read sump (there is place enough) and get almost double capacity ???

You can, but don't expect it to work as well as you might think. In general you set up a war between the two skimmers, they fight over the same proteins trying to get a sufficient amount to build a foam head. Two identical skimmers as far apart as possible tends to work the best, but one will usually beat the other and they will tend to seemingly take turns removing waste if they are tuned so the performance is close to the same. I have done this before where space was an issue and Julian Sprung used to run his tanks with 2 skimmers, his older Reef Notes and I believe the first The Reef Aquarium book described this. One removes very little, the other works normally, than for no obvious reason they switch.

ok thanks,

isn't a big deal however since the 9001 should be OK for my 34 gallon RSM c-130 and I don't plan sps in it + I will have ATO for stable water level and weekly water change of around 5 gallon. Will most possibly be enough ;)
