Tunze 9010/9011

I just got a 9010 from a reefer on here and was wanting to know if water coming out the back of the skimmer through the hole is normal? No matter what I do water comes out the back.

I also wanted to know if anyone thought this is normal... I gave the skimmer a good vinegar bath, and then rinsed and allowed to air dry. I put it back together and placed it in the sump. After turning it on the skimmer seems to be producing a lot bubbles but they are barely going past the lowest part of the skimmer piece that can be removed. I know that the skimmer will need time to break in and produce a foam head but is the water through the hole normal and is the point at where the water level is at normal as well?

I am also thinking of putting my bubble magus back in until this thing gets off the ground. The tank is full of corals and I dont want to do anything bad. What do you all think?

Thanks, Jared

Oh and there seems to be excessive microbubbles coming out of the outflow pipe. The skimmer is sitting in 9 inches of water and the sump pipe is attached.

Ok, took the unit apart after reading some posts about the air line getting pinched. That was going on. Now the only thing going on is the skimmer keeps dumping water out the back outlet hole. I am probably sure this is normal but just wanted to make sure.

Ok, figured it all out. Turns out on of the little clips holding the impeller to the magnetic shaft was loose and caused the skimmer to overflow. After taking it apart and figuring out the little things its working perfectly. Its also skimming like I had hoped!

Oh, and now I see why Tunze fixed this in the 9011 model. Roger, change out the 9010 impeller for the 9011 or do you have to replace the pump as well?

The 9011 is essentially a 9010 with the new pump 9011.040 and a magnet holder instead of the old clamps. To use the 9011 impeller, you would need the 9011 pump as the magnets are different and won't interchange.

Thanks Roger. I have no use for the magnet holder but if this pump ever dies Ill be giving you a call. So far this thing is amazing. I believe it has creamier froth than my atb 840. And so far it has a nice consistent foam head. I cant wait until it fully breaks in.
