Tunze 9015 Protein Skimmer

I have a 70 gallon reef that has been set-up for about 5 months. I upgraded my skimmer to the Tunze 9015. I would like to know if when you use it in the sump...do you have to meet the waterline proscribed on the housing...in my read of the manual it appears that you only need to make sure the waterline is above the intake?

Also, what experience do others have using this skimmer. The best I get is the bubbles coming to the entry of the collector cup. I realize there is a break in period.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help

When used in sump the water level needs to be at least 4". Poor performance is usually due to a pinched airline inside the skimmer or being submerged too deep so the venturi is pulling in a water air mixture.

When i had my 9015 i had to keep the air screw wide open to get it to produce well. I ran it in about 6 inches of water.

Here is a pic with 2 or 3 days worth of skimmate.

Roger and Doe: thank you very much for the information...Doe the picture really helped. I really like the 9015 and am shocked how quiet it is.
