Tunze Associates...Help needed on 6000

Hi Tunze Associates,

I own a Tunze 6000 with the single controller. Tonight I heard a high pitch beeping noise and thought it was my smoke detector. Lo and behold it was my tunze...i hit the feeding button and the noise stopped...

So i come on the forumn and see that 90% of the alarms are because they need cleaning to CA deposits and what not...

I pulled the pump out of tank and took the impellor out per this forumns instructions(the sticky at the top of the threads). I cleaned it with brushes and a vinegar/water solution. There was calcium buildup(greyish white putty) and I cleaned it all out so that everything was black and i could see through one end of the impellor to the other.

HEREIN LIES THE NEW PROBLEM

---Now the alarm is disabled and the pump works but not properly. The lights on the controller bounce back from one setting of pulse to the other extremely rapidly...like the pump is pulsing at a 1/2 second.

It pumped water but I put my hand in front and didnt feel like it was pumping at its best.

WHY IS IT DOING THIS WITH THE BOUNCING LIGHTS AND NOT PUMPING CORRECTLY AFTER I CLEANED IT?

The thing about the cleaning in the other thread you all sticky shows 6 peices in the second picture. But mine doesnt have all those pieces...probably explained by that is a different stream and i have the 6000...

so i see...a magnetic impellor with the blade at the end obviously....and the magnet is just one peice...it looks like there is a piece that screws into the other peice but they wont come apart on mine...they twist a little but wont twist off and i wouldnt force it for fear of breaking it....oh and of course i do have the little red o-ring that was wrapped around the slot on the back of the impellor

DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT?

DID I CLEAN IT WRONG?

IS IT ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY?(ALARM IS STOPPED THOUGH)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have it turned off and out of water right now as i dont want to do any damage to it. I am going to go tinker with it a little and see if i can figure it out but I am not gonna go taking it completely apart until someone helps me out.

Thanks Tunze Associates

BTW...i would like to try to fix it myself as my back up flow isnt very good and no one around here sells anything worth a dang when it comes to flow..so if i could avoid sending it in that would be great!

thanks again

BTW...i checked for loose cables...didnt help...pulled out the propellor and tinkered with it....to no avail

to better describe what is going on now..

the pump comes on and when it does whatever setting it is on ...that red light for one of the 2 settings on the controller is red and the other is off but after a few seconds that lights starts to flutter and then it starts bouncing back from light to light very rapidly

also...when you put your hand out in front of it you can the flow fluttering as well....

this cant be good on the pump so it is turned off....hopefully i will hear from Tunze tonight or early tomorrow

Look at the sticky thread again or read your manual and look up a piece called the upper bearing, it is stuck to the magnetic drive unit on your pump, the magnet should spin freely on this piece, this piece sits above the oring.

Hmmm... i havent gone to look at the manual...i just got home from work...but I left the pump on over night accidentally(i hit the food timer and forgot to pull the plug before i fell asleep last night) and strangely everything is working fine now.

I dont know if it "spun" itself into place or what happened but everything seems fine so i am just gonna leave it be.

Thanks rvitko.

Well dang.....just as i say everything is fine...

the controller isnt doing what it was yesterday however when the pump goes from 100% down to 30%...on the 30% setting the pump vibrates( you can barely hear it but if you hold the stream you can easily feel it)

I am going to go find my manual before i bother you again...but dont forget about me.

It is that upper bearing, trust me. The pump has to drag it and it should spin freely on it.
