Had it for about 5 months and the pump on light comes on but the pump does not. Anyone have any suggestions. I have played with the float switches, unhooked it, unplugged it etc but to no avail. I would love some advice as this thing has made the hobby fun again but I can't justify buying another one yet.

First please double-check the wire connection between the pump and controller. Remove the pump's wire ends where they join with the controller and make sure the exposed wire is nice and shiny and not a dull color. If it's at all dull from corrosion, try and clean it up or cut off a bit of wire to expose new wire. Hook it back up again and see if the pump will run.

If it doesn't, try disconnecting the pump from the controller again and testing it with a 9V battery. Just touch the two wires to the terminals (either way) of a fresh 9V and see if the pump spins. If it doesn't then the pump is dead. If it does then it's something else. Let me know what you find and we'll figure it out from there.

I trimmed the wires and it tries to work, the pump goes on, the appropriate lights seem to go on but no water comes out of the output line. Is there a way to disassemble the pump to if it is somehow clogged inside? It appears however, to be once piece molded.

Their is no way to disassemble the pump, if it was used with a calcium supplement, you might try soaking it in vinegar/water mixed 50/50 for a few hours. If the wires for the pump are blackened at all, you will want to cut back to where you get to good shiny copper.

I trimmed them back an inch to expose shiny new wire. Still the motor just whirrs and no water comes out. Frustrating, I loved the way this made the hobby so much easier.

Sounds very simple but have you turned the pump upside down under water to clear any air that might be in the pump?

If purging any trapped air as described by Audgy does not work, please check to see if the impeller spins when the pump runs, it may have broken free, in which case we can replace it. You can see if the impeller is spinning through the hole in the bottom.

Thanks guys. Either purging trapped air, or forcing the white impellar with a screw driver did the trick! Hooked up and working again. Thanks!!!!!
