I Have 2 Tunze 6201's. Worried about power failures.

Are there any battery backup's available for teh Tunze pumps?.

What are people using to guard against power failures.
Inerter/ deep cycle battery etc?. How have people set these up.

Thanks for advice....

My apologies the link didn't provide any information so I have copied and pasted it for you

Other power supply units for Turbelle® electronic 5001 - safety connector

Turbelle® electronic 5001 has been fitted with an electronic motor. The pump can be operated on any direct-current source (battery, solar cells) from 10 V to 24 V. For a safe connection to the pump, we recommend the Turbelle® Safety Connector 6105.50, which contains a 4 amps fuse. The safety connector permits normal operation with the TUNZE® power supply unit, but in case of a power failure it will automatically switch over to a car battery or a direct-current source.

Thanks.

Will the 6105.50 safety connector power the 6201 Tunze pumps?.
Would I need 1 safety connector per pump?

Thanks for your help.

I bought a 1500VA UPS from a local computer store to run my Tunze wavebox and 6201, works great. Cost was around $180, but even smaller units would run these pumps for quite a while.

How long would it last? Is your wavebox plugged straight in to the 1500 VA UPS?

Thanks

I control the wavebox and the 6101 with a Neptune AquaSurf controller, but it only connects to the two control plugs on the Tunze units. The units themselves plug directly into the UPS.

I'm not yet sure how long it will last. The UPS is rated at 1500 volt-amps (VA), which in a DC circuit is equivalent to 1500 watts. Even though the Tunze pumps are DC powered, there is an AC conversion going on that will impact the power factor, which just means that the actual capability in watts will be lower than 1500. At full power draw, the UPS is rated for 30 minutes or so. The Tunze units consume very little power (30 watts for the 6101), so my expectation is they'll run for several hours. I ran them for three hours on UPS the other day as a test, but then had to leave before I could finish. My primary concern is circulation in the main tank if power fails and I'm not here to start the generator.

i just tested my setup - i used a 35 aH 12 V SLA battery and i finally got tired of waiting on it to run out - i switched power back over at 60 hours - i figure after that long, i should have a generator :)

by the way, that is freakin awesome!

I ran the test for 10 hrs yesterday using the Tunze Wavebox, 6101, and a 250w heater plugged into an APC 1500VA UPS box, no problem. The APC box looked like it had plenty left over. I'm using it to keep the temp and oxygen levels up in case power fails and I'm not here to start the generator. Nice that these pumps consume so little power. Didn't work so well when I tried to power my Hammerhead return pump with the APC though, go figure...

I'm not sure I'd leave you heater on your UPS. I'd bet it didn't come on this time of year. It would probably cut the runtime down to an hour or two if it were on. I'd rather have my tank drop a couple degrees before having the circulation die.

I came home one day last week to find that the circuit powering most of my sump equipment had shut off. Since my Neptune controller is down by the sump and on its own UPS, it was running, but all it knew about was the heat in the sump. The tank upstairs had been sitting with no circulation or heat for several hours. The tank had dropped from my normal 80 degrees down to 74. My tank is located in my office and I keep that room quite cool because of the MH lights. So, I bought the UPS to make sure the tank had circulation, and even though the heater will zap the UPS much more quickly, I do need to maintain the temp also. The heater in the tank is set to 77 degrees, so it won't kick on unless really needed.

Big project this weekend is to add a new sub-panel, run four new circuits to the tank area, connect everything to the DC8 and DC4 power strips, and move the Neptune upstairs. During the day in the summer, my tank temp runs about 77 without adding heat. When the MH lights go out it gets much colder. Probably because I keep the house pretty cold and I move a lot of water through the 100g sump in the basement.

can a Tunze safety connector be used with an older 6100??

Thanks
No. 6055, and 6x01.
