Hi!
I have just bought Tunze Copmact Kit 16. And would like to get some info concerning Comline filter inside of the above Kit 16. I am going to use as an alternative to mat refillable cartridge 870 with special filter carbon Tunze 870.901. Is it OK for Compact Kit 16 and marine tank (with LR and live sand) as a whole to have no mechanical filtration, only chemical one. I have heard a lot about the use of mechanical filters in marine tanks and am pretty discouraged and confused about its usefulness. I guess carbon filtration is more useful for use in Kit 16 than mechanical one. Am I right?

Thanks for answer, Alexey.

In general mechanical filtration is excellent if used properly. The problem is most people use a floss pad which doesn't get cleaned often and this adds to the nitrate. If not, they use a micron bag and this has so much force of water going through it that the debris is emulsified and it is like making espresso from detritus. Our cartridges have so many layers of fine floss that the debris cannot escape so easily and the force is much less than in a drain filter bag. If you change the cartridge weekly this will greatly benefit your aquarium. I would use carbon one week of the month and otherwise use the mechanical filters.
